Licensed Life
Insurance Agents State by State
When we talk about life
insurance agents, we of course mean state insurance department licensed
life insurance agents. However, it does not mean we are referring to
strictly life. Our analysis shows that roughly 22% of life insurance
agents sell annuities to their clients. About 18% of total licensed life
insurance agents sell variable annuities or variable life, which
requires them also having a series 6, 7, or 63, securities (NASD)
license. Also of the total life insurance agents nationwide,
approximately 97% have also health and accident, or sometimes called
accident and disability licensing. Finally, depending upon the state,
25% to 29% of licensed life insurance agents hold a property/casualty
license, in some states it is known as a fire and casualty license.
There are some of these casualty agents that rarely sell life insurance.
Also some "wire-house" stock brokers hold a life insurance agent
license, but stick to selling stocks, mutual funds, and non-insurance
related plans.
Do you know how many life
insurance agents that are licensed in every state of your recruiting
territory? You do now. A well known "insurance research" organization
stated that there were 250,000 life and health agents nationwide. They
sure did not check with us for our market knowledge. If we named off
life insurance agent counts for California, Texas, New York, and
Pennsylvania we would already surpass those figures. In fact 10 years
ago, there where over a million "active" life
agents. Today the total life insurance agents as a
percentage of population has shrunk, however the total life insurance
agent count is close to 1,070,000. By the way, the same authoritative firm
mentioned above, stated that the average life insurance
agent, makes $50,000 annually. Our insurance agent earnings report might
send a shockwave down your spine, when you see the real figures.
